Michigan Welcomes First
Children's Finance! This spring has
been a time of firsts - the opening of the first state
office for First Children's Finance, the appointment of
its first state director, the first board meeting to be
held in Michigan, the first meeting between Michigan
child care leaders and First Children's child care
leaders, and the list goes on and on. The First
Children's staff and board spent two days in Michigan
recently. Check out some of the highlights of the

Michigan Growth
Fund Centers celebrate with First Children's at its new
office in Detroit.
A festive open house marked the opening of the new
First Children's Finance office in Detroit.
According to Monica Duncan, Michigan director, "It's
wonderful to work so closely with Michigan's child care
community, our business advisors and funders. Being
local makes a huge difference in what we can accomplish
together."

Michigan leaders meet with First Children's;
discussion helps First Children's set
priorities.
Michigan child care leaders,
funders and business people came together to meet with
the First Children's board of directors and staff to
discuss ways First Children's could partner to increase
accessible, quality child care for low income children.
Small group discussions focused conversations on the
most significant issues and top priorities.

Children's Board of Directors meets in Detroit.
The First Children's Finance
Board of Directors held its regular meeting in Detroit
on April 24, 2009. The board heard from Lynn Graves,
Principal Financial Group, about her work recruiting
volunteers in Iowa who committed funds and time to
supporting quality child care.
